Where are your products manufactured?

Where are your animals sourced?
All of the animals used in our work are legally, respectfully, and responsibly sourced from hunters, trappers, and farmers in the USA, Canada, and Europe. For specific sourcing regarding individual pieces, please feel free to reach out to us!
What does Ethically Sourced Mean?
Ethically sourced means that the materials we use come from animals acquired through legal, respectful, and responsible means; this includes hunting, trapping, farming, as well as animals that have died from natural causes or road accidents.
We understand that "ethically sourced" can mean different things to different people. That’s why we believe in being as transparent as possible. we want people to make informed decisions based on their own beliefs and values, rather than assumptions.
Ultimately, we want you to feel good about what you’re buying; because you made the choice that feels right for you and aligns with your personal values.
We define products that fit the following guidelines ethically sourced...
1. Animals are handled with respect.
2. No unnecessary suffering of any kind.
3. (For those raised in captivity) Are housed and taken care of properly. Farmers provide proper and legally required nutrition, space, veterinary care, and even enrichment.
4. Minimize waste as much as possible so that the animal did not die needlessly.
5. Hunters and trappers have the proper licenses to handle, hunt, or harvest these animals as well as follow all applicable animal welfare laws.
6. No animal products originate from countries that lack animal welfare laws.
7. All baby animals are natural deaths and or failed to thrive.

Commission FAQ
Can I send you a pelt I have?
Yes, we can work on customer supplied pelts, including whole animals, frozen raw, or tanned pelts. Please note that there will be a tanning fee if you are suppying a raw pelt. This price varies by species, but base tanning is $100.
For tanned pelts, you will need to provide detailed photos of the face, lips, eyes, and paws so we can help you deturmine if your pelt is able to be mounted.
We charge an extra fee to sew up rug cut pelts. If you are unsure how to skin a pelt for taxidermy, please reach out to us.
How Do Commission Payments work?
After submitting the form on our commission page, you will receive an email from us with follow up questions and a quote for the work you have requested. Once approved by you, you will be sent an official invoice from Sterling Fox Taxidermy LLC to your email for the agreed upon amount. This invoice will allow you to pay your 50% deposit as well as the final payment once the mount is complete.
We may accept payment plans on a case-by-case basis.
Please note, we will never ask you to pay through an unprotected payment platform (friends and family). We send payment requests only through professional (Sterling Fox Taxidermy) accounts. For online customers, we accept payments via this website, Etsy, and our official business PayPal ONLY.
What materials are soft mount made of, and are they safe to handle?
Our mounts are made from professionally garment tanned furs. They are safe to handle and do not have any harsh chemical residue, in fact, they have a pleasant, tanned leather smell! The mounts contain a wire armature wrapped with cotton quilt batting and polyfil. All parts of the mount are preserved, so they will not decay. The mounts do contain small parts and pieces that may be harmful if swallowed, so keeping away from pets and children is recommended.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping for all taxidermy mounts is FREE.
What can I customize on my mount?
You can customize the mount how ever you like! We can...
- help you pick eye color (selecting one of our premade designs, or have one made just for you)
- Add horns or antlers (Jackalopes)
- Add wings or certain accessories
- Build a custom body style
- Any other ideas, just ask and we can most likely do it!
We will not modify the pelt color or offer custom dyed fur options as this compromises the leather integrity.
What if change my mind on body style or eye color?
If you change your mind on your mount details after your deposit has been placed, you need to contact us ASAP. We will send you a notice when your mount is up next. This will be the BEST time to let us know if you want something changed. There may be a fee to change or modify your mount after we've started working on it depending on the request.
What is the average turnaround time?
Most mounts are completed within 4-8 months. Please see our commission status block above for the most current estimation.
Your commission spots are closed but I want to commission you, do you have a waitlist?
Yes! If you are interested in a commission, please submit a request even if the commissions are closed. We can then reach out to you once we have a few more spots.
How often do your commission spots open?
Our commission spots open and close on a rolling basis. The number of spots and when they open depends on our current project workload. We typically open 3-4 spots a few times a year.
Do you offer rush orders?
Yes, but on a case-by-case basis. After you submit your commission request and we discuss timeline, let us know when you would like the mount compelted by. We do our best to meet customer deadlines and we will let you know if we can do so. Please allow at least a MINIMUM of 2 months for turnaround (tanned pelts only).
Does it cost more to rush order a mount?
Yes, there is a rush order fee that will be added to the total commission price. The exact number will vary by the project, but typically expect a fee of $100 for each month you would like your mount rushed. Rush orders must be paid in full upfront.
Why don't you accept pet cats or dogs?
We understand how deeply people care about their pets and would like to see them immortalized. However, we do not accept cats or dogs for taxidermy. This policy is in place due to a combination of ethical considerations, emotional sensitivity surrounding companion animals, and the complex legal and regulatory guidelines that can vary by location.
Are there any pet animals you are able to taxidermy?
We are willing to accept certain pet species such as rabbits. Reach out to us and ask!
What sort of care do Soft Mounts require?
Each mount will come with a care guide explaining how to keep it looking and feeling beautiful for many years to come. In general, keep them dry and out of the sunlight. Keep away from pets. Handle only with clean, gentle hands. These mounts are built to last but should still be treated with care and not handled by children.
Do you offer discounts for taxidermy commissions?
No, we don't currently offer discounts for commissions.
Can you ship mounts internationally? (Outside of the USA)
No, we don't currently offer shipping outside of the USA for any taxidermy or animal products. This is due to the restrictions on the exporting and importing of certain animal products. We hope to offer international shipping in the future.
